Situated in Shanghai, a center of China’s most important economy, transportation, technology, industry, finance and shipping, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) has been playing an important role in the world and achieved tremendous success for the past 120 years. Today, SJTU has become a comprehensive, research-oriented and international university after going through these extraordinary years.

With the sense of gratitude and responsibility, School of Ocean and Civil Engineering (OCE), while continuing to uphold the tradition and motto of SJTU, is proud to be the benchmark of China’s naval architecture and ocean engineering in modern education and scientific research. It consists of 5 primary disciplines covering Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Civil Engineering, Architecture, and Transportation Engineering (with an emphasis on International Shipping). Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering and Mechanics are accredited as the two National Primary Key Disciplines. Remarkably, the department of Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering is among the best in the world by possessing the comprehensive experimental facilities and is ranked the top one in the National Primary Key Discipline Assessment.

To this day, OCE has achieved many breakthrough achievements in various research fields and has concentrated the most powerful research force in China by establishing the Collaborative Innovation Center for Advanced Ship and Deep-Sea Exploration, State Key Laboratory of Ocean Engineering, National Large-scale Scientific Facility Center of Deepwater Technology Experiments and providing many higher level research platforms, and much more.

In order to implement the strategy of enhancing CE by attracting all of the talents that it has to offer, SJTU-OCE sincerely invites young talented scholars from all over the world to attend “the Si Yuan Young Scholar’s Forum of SJTU-OCE 2017”.

2. Application Requirements

Those doing research in the areas of naval architecture & ocean engineering, engineering mechanics, civil engineering, architecture, transportation engineering, and other related fields and satisfying one of the following criteria:

A. Not older than 40 years old (including 40 years old), obtained a PhD degree and has academic working experience from distinguished universities/institutions abroad or in China; research work at the level of excellence of assistant professors in world class universities (or eligible for and competitive in Young 1000 Talent program application).

B. Recently graduated or ready-to-graduate doctoral students or post doctors in two years; possessing a strong academic potential and vested interest in education and scientific research in academia.

A. Before November 15th, 2016, submit the application form and upload a curriculum vitae (CV).

B. Before November 30th, 2016, inform application status and release the agenda of the forum

4. Financial Support

In order to encourage young talented scholars to attend this forum, round trip tickets (economy class) to Shanghai, accommodation and meal expenses relating to the forum will be covered by the Forum organization.
